Kathryn and James' October 2025 wedding at Horsley Towers felt like it had come straight out of the pages of a storybook.

Their day began at St Peter's Church in Iver, where Kathryn's mum, a vicar, led the ceremony, setting the tone for a wedding filled with meaning, emotion and deep family connection.

From the church, guests climbed aboard a classic red Routemaster bus and were transported through the Surrey countryside to the breathtaking setting of Horsley Towers.

Horsley Towers is one of Surrey's most enchanting venues. A secluded manor house blends 19th-century architecture with an elegant modern style, creating the perfect backdrop for a black-tie autumn celebration.

The venue paired beautifully with Kathryn and James' vision: rich seasonal colour, gold accents, and soft romantic florals.

An Elegant Autumn Colour Palette

Kathryn and James's black-tie wedding embraced the season's richness. Emerald-green bridesmaid dresses alongside soft autumn tones: Apricot, ivory, deep coral, and touches of burnt orange.

Gold details ran throughout the styling, adding warmth. From gold-edged charger plates and gold cutlery to a velvet-backed emerald "Order of the Day" sign, every detail felt considered, romantic and effortlessly luxurious.

Meaningful Details & Joyful Moments

What made this wedding truly unforgettable was the heart woven into every corner of the day.

Guests found anniversary cards at their table settings, ready to sign and for the couple to open in future years, a beautiful way to extend the celebration beyond the wedding day itself.

One of my favourite displays of all time was their "love story through the years", A gallery of family wedding photographs spanning generations. It was nostalgic, emotional and such a powerful reminder that a wedding day is part of something much bigger.

Fun was never far away, either. A "first dance sweepstake" brought laughter to the evening, while handwritten notes from some of Kathryn's primary school pupils, completing the statement 'love is...', added both innocence and humour in equal measure.

And when evening fell, Kathryn changed into a second outfit, ready to embrace the dance floor and celebrate in style.

Trusting Their Suppliers

One thing I absolutely loved about Kathryn and James' approach was the trust they placed in their suppliers.

Rather than micro-managing every detail, Kathryn shared her vision and colour palette, explained what she loved (and, just as importantly, what she didn't), and then let us interpret that vision using our expertise.

She shared these details with her florist, sharing inspiration but allowing seasonal flowers to guide the final designs. This meant that even the couple had a few surprises waiting for them on the day.

As wedding suppliers, we are used to couples making every decision themselves, with a little guidance. So it was refreshing and genuinely lovely to see a couple relieve themselves of some of that pressure. It created space for anticipation rather than stress.

The florist and I worked closely together, sharing mood boards and updates once the flowers were ordered. A slight change the week before, completely normal when working with seasonal blooms, was seamlessly incorporated into the final cake design.

And everything flowed beautifully.

Kathryn knew she wanted an elegant centrepiece cake for their Horsley Towers reception.

We began with one of my previous designs, Belle, as inspiration, adapting it to reflect their soft autumn palette. Shallow tiers were incorporated to enhance the silhouette and, of course, add extra cake.

The sugar flowers were handcrafted to reflect the fresh florals used throughout the day: Toffee roses, Apricot pompom dahlias, Burnt orange spray roses and a mix of deep green foliage.

Delicate edible gold splatters framed the sugar-flower cascade, mirroring the gold accents throughout the décor.

Kathryn sourced the most beautiful emerald green velvet ribbon herself, along with the cake stand, both waiting for me at the venue to complete the display.

Kathryn's brother had secretly met with both the bride and groom before the wedding, capturing them in their wedding outfits in order to 3D print miniature versions of them as the cake topper.

It was personal, playful, and and utterly perfect.

Did you know it's just as important to your wedding suppliers that your day goes without a hitch as it is to you?

This is precisely why one of my couples last year chose to take a different approach.

Kathryn came to me with a clear sense of what she liked, her colour palette, and just as importantly, what she didn't like.

She'd had the same conversation with her florist. She shared her vision and allowed them the freedom to choose the seasonal flowers that reflected it. From there, everything flowed naturally.

The florist and I worked closely together; they shared their mood board with me, and kept me updated once the flowers were ordered, they also let me know about a slight change the week before the wedding, which is completely normal when working with seasonal blooms.

Because that trust was already in place, the change was seamless. The cake design evolved alongside the florals, and everything felt considered, intentional, and completely aligned.

That level of collaboration, built on the trust our couple placed in us, allowed us to create something wonderful for Kathryn and James. Nothing felt forced. Nothing felt overthought. It simply worked.

Choosing trust before you book.

Trust isn't something that magically appears on your wedding day, it starts before you book. This is why, when selecting your suppliers, you should ask yourself:

• If something unexpected happens, do I feel confident they’ll handle it calmly and professionally?

• Do I feel excited and relieved after speaking to them, rather than overwhelmed?

• Would I feel comfortable saying, I trust you, do what you think works best? (these are the magic words every supplier wants to hear)
