I’m throwing it back to last summer, where I had the honour of creating a stunning floral-inspired wedding cake for Caroline and Christian’s wedding at the picturesque Pembroke Lodge. Nestled in the heart of Richmond Park, this striking Georgian mansion is situated amongst manicured gardens with scenic views. Offering history and elegance at every turn, it comes as no surprise that Caroline and Christian knew it would be the perfect setting to celebrate their love story.
Seeking a wedding cake design inspired by nature, Caroline and Christian envision a creation that embraced the light, summery flavours of the season, bringing the outdoors inside with every mouthful. Their design brief called for a natural and organic style, with a colourful palette (that avoided the shade, red).
Their carefully chosen flavours of white chocolate & raspberry, vanilla & strawberry and lemon were the ideal options to complement their warm July wedding. Together, I worked with the couple to create a pressed edible flower cake, which was a first at The Jo Harper Cake Company.
This unique yet beautiful design required me sourcing some pre-pressed florals, while pressing the rest myself ahead of their celebration. The process brought back many fond childhood memories for me, while the result was a summer wedding cake adorned with a fabulous array of flowers.
Caroline had shared a selection of inspirational pictures during our design consultations, one of which featured petals that were arranged to look like a butterfly. So of course, I made sure I incorporated this delicate detail into their cake – see if you can spot it within their photographs!
Having arrived at Pembroke Lodge to set up the cake, I noticed that the gorgeous floral arrangements by Resoria were the perfect match for the blooms that embellished each tier (which was a delightful coincidence as we hadn’t discussed this previously).
It was a hugely rewarding experience having the chance to create Caroline and Christian’s flowery wedding cake. Featuring light and summery flavours and colourful pressed flowers, these two elements worked in harmony to craft a cake that was as stunning as it was delicious.
Having the opportunity to try something completely new was a wonderful experience and I will always savour the chance to get truly creative.
